The Civic Trust

The Civic Trust is the independent nationwide network dedicated to helping communities make better places in which to live, work and play. We campaign for better places for people.

We aim to enhance the general well being and quality of lives of people and communities by working with them to value, enjoy and provide aesthetic, prosperous and greener places for a sustainable Britain.

The Civic Trust manages the Green Flag Award scheme on behalf of Communities and Local Government. The scheme is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales, and is being piloted in Ireland and Scotland. The scheme includes the Green Pennant Award, which rewards community and voluntary groups, which manage and maintain their own green spaces for the benefit of the community.

Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens

The Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens exists to support, represent and promote community-managed farms and gardens. The Federation has more than 360 members, ranging from organic community orchards to pockets of urban space saved from development; from allotment groups to well-established city farms.

We represent around 60 city farms, nearly 1,000 community gardens, more than 50 school farms, and a growing number of community-managed allotments. HRH The Prince of Wales is a key supporter and has been our patron since October 2001.

Between them our members employ nearly 600 people, engage and empower thousands of volunteers and attract over three million visitors each year. Their estimated combined annual turnover is £40 million.
