A really wild launch for The Friends of Riverside Park

Community Sapces

Celebrity TV presenter Chris Packham was amongst the 150 people that turned up to Woodmill Play Area last week to celebrate it’s grand opening.

It was a busy day for the Friends of Riverside Park as work continued on the playground right up until the morning of the launch.

As the crowds grew, Chris Packham talked about how happy he was to see Woodmill Park finally renovated, as he spent many of his childhood years playing on the empty space.

The Friends of Riverside Park received £49,999 from Community Spaces to turn an empty, baron piece of land into a vibrant play area for young children.

Catherine Tipper, a committee member from The Friends of Riverside Park said the launch was a extremely successful and children were still playing on the new equipment late into the evening.

“Feedback from the community has been very positive and the playground has been in constant use come rain or shine. The local school have even said they will use the newly refurbished area in the spring for nature walks.”

Although work on the play area is finished, the group are looking to continually improve the site with outdoor fitness equipment and community volunteer days.

“It’s early days, but it really seems that the renovations have lifted the spirit of the community. We are looking forward to many enjoyable years spent at the park.”
